Annagh is back on the map...Councillor Ger Deere beside the newly installed signpost.

Mayo townland signposts back where they belong

TOWNLAND signposts removed during the N5 dual carriage works have been replaced.

The place name signs at various locations along the old Castlebar to Westport Road were removed and replaced with road number signposts instead last year.

Councillor Ger Deere voiced disquiet in the months since about their removal, them having been in place for generations.

He insisted that they be restored or replaced.

The original signs, councillors heard some months ago, had been recycled.

However, Councillor Deere had good news at a municipal district meeting this week - the placenames are back where they belong.
