Civic reception to mark Mayo football club's centenary

A century of excellence at Castlebar Celtic is to be marked with the hosting of a civic reception.

At this week's Castlebar Municipal District meeting, Councillor Ger Deere proposed that the club would be accorded a civic reception to acknowledge their contribution to the sporting and cultural life of Castlebar over the last 100 years.

Said Councillor Deere: “The club has been at the heart of our community, enriching our town and those who have passed through the gates. So many from Castlebar have proudly worn the green and white hoops, building a legacy of passion, teamwork, and local pride.

“Their contribution goes beyond football - fostering friendships, values, and a deep sense of belonging. From youth development to success on and off the pitch, Castlebar Celtic has been a pillar of our town.

“Their recent centenary celebrations were a testament to these successes.

“Well done to all the members on a century of excellence!”
