Council acquire Newport housing units

NINE units at Black Oak Rise in Newport have been taken over by Mayo County Council.

They will be coming back into accommodation use next year, the director of services for housing has confirmed to Councillor Johnny O'Malley.

Consultation is taking place about apartments there, too, with a different approved housing body, to agree pricing.

“It has taken time but there is significant progress and there is light at the end of the tunnel,” director Tom Gilligan told Councillor O'Malley.
