GAA club members in Mayo can be part of a historic new artwork at Croke Park

As part of its work to mark the 140th anniversary of the founding of the GAA, members of clubs in Mayo have an opportunity to be a part of a historic new art installation dedicated to Michael Cusack.

GAA volunteers everywhere now have an opportunity to literally be a part of the newly refurbished Cusack Stand at Croke Park.

The theme of the refurbishment is the vibrant spirit of volunteerism that has driven the association since 1884. One of the flagship pieces envisaged is a mosaic made up of hundreds of photos of today’s volunteers coming together to represent an image of GAA founder, Michael Cusack, which will hang proudly in the Cusack Stand for many years to come.

If you or someone from your club would like to be involved, here are things to note: the image must be a head and shoulders shot of the volunteer against a plain, bright background; the image file size needs to be a minimum of four megabytes (4MB), so a photo taken on a smartphone, for example, would be sufficient; the person being photographed must be over 18; the person must give their consent for their image to be used in this piece of artwork; the image will be used for inclusion in this montage and nothing else; submitting a photo does not guarantee inclusion in the artwork.

Consent can be given by completing this document and emailing it along with the photograph to cusackmosaic@gaa.ie.

The GAA is hoping for a great response from clubs in Mayo and elsewhere in order to create something unique that represents the voluntary ethos and celebrates the contribution of volunteers.
