Multi-chain business opens on historic Mayo street

Caffé Nero, a new state-of-the-art cafe, has opened at Cavendish Lane in Castlebar.

It is located in a building which was formerly the home of The Connaught Telegraph, Ireland's oldest provincial newspaper.

It has seating for up to 44 people and is providing five new jobs.

The multi-chain coffee outlet describes itself as 'a home away from home'.

"Whether you're looking to start your day with tasty breakfast, grab a healthy option for lunch, treat yourself to something indulgent, or settle down with your usual coffee, we have options for everyone.

"Find your favourite spot - soft leather chair, café stool or private booth- and stay as long as you’d like.

"We're all about rich, remarkable coffee, from ethical and sustainable sourcing to careful roasting and expert blending.

"We go to great lengths for the perfect cup of coffee.

"Our app is the quickest route to your morning coffee and means you’ll never lose your loyalty card again," the Caffé Nero website outlines.

The street is named after Frederick Cavendish, who was born in England in 1777.

After a period of working for the civic service in Dublin, he moved to Castlebar and become publisher of The Connaught Telegraph.

In its first editorial he promised 'to be just and fear not' and to fight for the rights of the poor.

The opening is a major commercial boost for the town centre.
