Priorities for Ballina outlined by new director of services
THE new director of services in the Ballina Municipal District area has revealed her priorities for the years ahead at the September monthly meeting of the authority.
After acknowledging the work of her predecessor, Tom Gilligan, and staff in the area, Catherine McConnell said a top priority was to work with the IDA and other statutory bodies to make sure their lands in Ballina are opened up and developed.
It is also important that road projects are progressed, she said, adding that her focus will be on continuing the delivery of services to people to the high standards they have been used to up to now.
“I very much look forward to working with you all to further Ballina's development and prosperity,” Ms. McConnell stated.
Welcoming the new director of services, Councillor Annie May Reape (Fianna Fáil) said this is a new dawn for everyone.
She agreed it would be 'fantastic' to get the IDA park off the ground, and she backed a call by Councillor Mark Duffy (Ind) to strongly pursue securing the Fleadh for Ballina.
Councillors Duffy, Joe Faughnan (Ind) and John O'Hara (Fine Gael) also welcomed Ms. McConnell to Ballina.
“You could not be working with a better bunch,” said Councillor O'Hara in reference to the council staff in Ballina. “I wish you the very best in your time here,” he concluded.
