Ballyhaunis Golf Club's John William Burke has been named on the Irish Under 16 boys' team to face England next week.

The Irish Under 16 boys’ golf team to face England at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club features Ballyhaunis native John William Burke.

The event takes place next week, with the action getting underway on Saturday, October 5, with morning foursomes at the Somerset venue.

As well as John William, the Irish team features Eoin Burrows (Belvoir Park), Adam Fahey (Portmarnock), John Moran (Portmarnock), Isaac Oliver (Ballinasloe) and Harry O'Hara (Clandeboye).

The Irish girls’ team will also be taking on their English counterparts. The team consists of Ella Cantwell (Esker Hills), Hannah Lee McNamara (Royal Portrush), Gemma McMeekin (Royal Portrush), Kayleigh Mulholland (Moyola Park), Niamh O’Grady (Royal Dublin) and Jessica Reynolds (Co. Sligo).

Meanwhile, the Irish team for the World Junior Girls Championship in Canada next week has also been announced.

The current Bridgestone Order of Merit leader, Anna Abom (Edmondstown), will make the trip alongside Olivia Costello (Roscommon) and Kate Dillon (Oughterard).

The trio, who all took part in the recent KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Carton House, will play at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Ontario.

The event involves a 72-hole stroke play tournament, with individual and team events, and competitive rounds beginning on Wednesday, October 2.
