Mayo North East secures €8,925 from Coca-Cola ‘Thank You Fund’ for sustainable food project

Mayo North East, a community-focused organisation committed to combating social exclusion, inequality, and poverty, has been awarded €8,925 from the Coca-Cola ‘Thank You Fund’.

The funding will support the development of a new programme called "Waste Wise Kitchen", which aims to educate participants on reducing food waste and promoting sustainable practices.

The grant is part of a €200,000 funding pool distributed by Coca-Cola and its bottling partner, Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland, to 18 non-profit youth groups across the island of Ireland. The annual fund supports initiatives that empower young people through education, sustainability, and community engagement.

Mayo North East’s "Waste Wise Kitchen" will run two ten-week programmes designed to teach practical cooking skills, promote healthy eating, and encourage participants to make informed, eco-friendly decisions about food waste. The project will benefit community members while aligning with the fund’s goals of fostering education and environmental leadership in young people aged 16 to 25.

Now in its 14th year, the Coca-Cola ‘Thank You Fund’ continues to support youth-led projects that promote education, employability, and sustainability. This is the second consecutive year that €200,000 in grants has been available, allowing more community projects to thrive. Ten organisations from the Republic of Ireland were among the recipients, with Mayo North East being the standout group from the region.
