Mayo's Ballintubber Abbey choir launches fundraiser Album

Ballintubber Abbey Choir successfully launched their new fundraiser album, ‘Dóchas ‘s Grá - Hope and Love’, on a glorious, sunny evening last Thursday.

Attendees were treated to traditional Irish music performed by local young musicians, along with songs featured on the album, sung by the Abbey Choir under the direction of Fr. Joe McGuinness. The album’s introductory track, ‘Message of Hope’, spoken by Fr. Frank Fahey, was played and resonated deeply with those fondly connected to Ballintubber Abbey.

Parish Priest Fr. Michael Farragher opened the event by welcoming everyone to the historic, 800-year-old "Abbey that refused to die," and reminded the audience that "to sing once is to pray twice."

Abbey Manager and MC for the evening, Suellen McKenna, thanked the choir for their hard work and dedication in recording the CD to such a high standard. Choir Directors Janine Hoban and Maria Spelman shared the journey behind producing the album and expressed gratitude to all those involved in making the project possible. Con Lydon from the Abbey Trust also provided an update on the long-awaited restoration project.

Fr. Joe McGuinness, based in Maynooth, composed many of the song arrangements and played a key role in the success of this fundraiser album. He spoke of the honor of working with such a wonderful community in a place as special and spiritual as Ballintubber Abbey, and of the bonds of friendship that are created when singing together in a choir.

Dóchas ‘s Grá is a beautifully presented album featuring traditional Irish music and songs inspired by the church calendar year. It aims to convey the "Hope and Love" that has endured throughout the rich history of Ballintubber Abbey. The album also includes a commemorative booklet with photographs of the Abbey and its surrounding grounds.

All proceeds will go towards the Culture and Heritage Visitor Centre East Wing Restoration Project and the ongoing upkeep of the ancient Abbey.

Albums can be purchased from ballintubberabbey.ie, the Abbey Gift Shop, Corrigan's Store, Castle Book Shop, and Knock Shrine Bookshop.

“Ballintubber Abbey Choir extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported this musical endeavor."
