Prestigious accolade for new Mayo public house

The Barrel & Castle in the centre of Castlebar has been awarded Best Customer Service in Connaught 2024 by the prestigious Irish Pub Awards.

Coming a mere six months after it opened its doors in March 2024, this is a huge achievement for the establishment.

The team, led by experienced general manager Darragh McGarry, are delighted to receive this accolade.

They are now looking forward to the national awards, winners of which will be announced at a gala event in November.

The refurbishment of the previously Bosh Bar, which had been closed for five years, was extensive.

Completed in March 2024 it took over a year to finish and the result is a stunning interior over two levels with an outdoor area and private bar to the rear.

The Barrel & Castle serves lunch and dinner seven days a week and also offers live entertainment every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

It is an ideal venue for parties and celebrations and is already receiving a large amount of enquiries for Christmas parties and events.

Proprietor Joe O’Malley, who also owns the award-winning Porter House and Cosy Joe’s bars in Westport, said: "I am very pleased for the team in the Barrel & Castle who have created a friendly, warm and professional atmosphere in the Barrel & Castle with their high standard of customer service.

"They have come together very quickly and with the training and direction provided, are receiving extremely positive feedback from customers.

"However this award will only encourage us to continue in our efforts to ensure a memorable experience for every customer."
