West Mayo road closure to facilitate water project works

UISCE Éireann has advised motorists of a road closure outside Westport to ensure the safe delivery of essential works to facilitate the Murrisk community water connection project.

The laying of 1.2km of new pipeline is essential to connect homes in Murrisk, Lecanvey and Kilsallagh areas with a state-of-the-art public water supply, but to progress works a temporary road closure in the Carrownalurgan area of Westport is necessary.

The Lankhill Road L-2805 will be closed temporarily from Monday, September 30, to Friday, October 18.

Locals are assured that local and emergency traffic will be maintained to properties along the route at all times. A diversion route will be in place and a map of that route is below:

Describing the section of pipeline as 'critical' for the people of Murrisk, Lecanvey and Kilsallagh, Uisce Éireann’s programme manager, Laura Heneghan, thanked the community for their patience and cooperation in advance of the works.

“I can’t overstate the importance of this project for the local community. The delivery of this section of water main is essential to a project which will help provide a safer, more secure water supply for communities in west Mayo. This project will have benefits for generations to come,” she said.

Farrans is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be complete before the end of this year.

The project is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and a local contribution from the residents of the areas being served, along with a contribution from Uisce Éireann to upsize the trunk main so it can be used in the future to supply the Louisburgh area.
