First two semi-finalists confirmed in Mayo senior football championship
Ballaghaderreen and Knockmore are the first two confirmed semi-finalists in the Connacht Gold Mayo Senior Football Championship.
Both were winners in their respective quarterfinals on Saturday (September 28), Ballaghaderreen beating Ballintubber at home by 2-8 to 0-8 and Knockmore getting the better of Garrymore with a resounding 3-8 to 0-5 victory in south Mayo.
In the relegation playoffs, Charlestown secured their senior status with a 2-10 to 1-10 victory over Belmullet, while it took penalties to separate Kilmeena and Mayo Gaels, the latter winning 4-3 on spot kicks following a 1-11 to 1-11 draw in Tourmakeady. The relegation final will thus be between Kilmeena and Belmullet.
Three of the four Egan Jewellers Mayo Intermediate Football Championship quarterfinals were played on Saturday evening as well, with Ballinrobe, Davitts and Crossmolina all making their way into the semi-finals.
The results were: Ballinrobe 1-14, Ardnaree 0-10; Davitts 0-17, Kiltane 1-12 (after extra time); and The Neale 0-8, Crossmolina 1-8.
Finally, there was one game played in the Treanlaur Catering Mayo Exclusive Junior Football Championship, with Eastern Gaels winning their quarterfinal against Northern Gaels by 1-14 to 2-7 in Brickens.
The remaining championship games will be played on Sunday (September 29), as follows: senior quarterfinals – Breaffy v Westport (1 p.m. in Breaffy), Ballina Stephenites v Castlebar Mitchels (3.45 p.m. in James Stephens Park, Ballina); intermediate quarterfinal – Moy Davitts v Hollymount/Carramore (1 p.m. in Foxford); intermediate relegation playoffs – Islandeady v Lahardane (3.30 p.m. in Parke), Kiltimagh v Kilmaine (3.30 p.m. in Claremorris); junior quarterfinals – Ardagh v Bonniconlon (1 p.m. in Ardagh), Swinford v Killala (3.30 p.m. in Swinford), Cill Chomáin v Tourmakeady (2 p.m. in Glenamoy).
