Mayo town rallies around local Order of Malta in its time of crisis
Westport Order of Malta has paid tribute to all the people who assisted in the clean-up of its HQ following criminal damage caused to the building in the early hours of yesterday morning.
A statement issued by the organisation reads: "A thank you to our amazing community.
"By now I'm sure we have all heard what happened in our community. But that is not the real Westport.
"The real Westport comes together and supports each other in times of crisis, we rally behind each other and make the town a better place, as we seen today on St. Mary's Crescent.
"We extend our most heartfelt thanks to those who rallied behind us today and helped us clean up our hall and get back on our feet.
"We might down but we are by no means out.
"The unit is still running 100% as we normally do, our members are out on duty both locally and further afield, and in the coming days and weeks we will have our hall back to normal too.
"So to the community of Westport who have always been there for us and continues to be there for us, we are forever grateful for your support."
Fr. John Kenny, Adm., Westport, has extended his heartfelt support to the organisation during this challenging time.
He stated: The damage to your building is undoubtedly disheartening, but it’s important to remember that your strength lies in our community and the incredible work you do.
"Your commitment to helping others and spreading compassionate care will shine through, even in the face of adversity.
"Take this moment to lean on one another, rebuild, and emerge stronger.
"Remember that resilience is born from challenges, and your unity will help guide you through this.
"Together, you will overcome this setback and continue to make a positive impact in the lives of those you serve.
"Stay strong and supportive of one another. Here in Westport you have a community that believes in you! Chin up and keep up the good work."
