Return club fundraising scheme started in Mayo goes national

A FUNDRAISING initiative started by Castlebar Tidy Towns some months ago is being rolled out across the country.

The Return to the Community Scheme gives people a convenient way of returning their cans and bottles for recycling while benefiting local causes or clubs at the same time.

Last May, Castlebar Tidy Towns in conjunction with local businesses McGrath Waste and Kavanagh’s SuperValu, Castlebar, launched a scheme in support of Mayo Cancer Support and Castlebar Tennis Club, with drop-offs at the tennis club.

Said Councillor Ger Deere: “It's great to see an initiative started by Castlebar Tidy Towns some months ago being rolled out nationally.

“Clubs can now apply for a free bin and bags to support fundraising elements for their club.”

The bin - 320ltr - is free of charge, lockable and has a rosette opening on the lid designed to facilitate the insertion of bottles/cans and avoid heavy contamination. Bags are provided and are heavy duty and designed for re-use, and are intended for use as a liner inside the bin.

Keys and bags are provided at the point of delivery.
