Science Week set to ignite Mayo with funding boost

Over €800,000 in funding has been allocated for Science Week 2024 festivals and events nationwide, according to Minister Alan Dillon.

In Mayo, the Circus Science by the Sea Festival is to receive €31,625, while Midlands Festival will receive €50,000 to support its exciting programme of activities.

Taking place across Ireland from November 10 to 17, Science Week is a national celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), with hundreds of events for people of all ages.

Minister Dillon said: “Science Week is now a much-anticipated calendar highlight for children and adults alike in Co. Mayo and a great opportunity for people to engage with science and research through fun, engaging and interactive events.

“I am delighted to see funding has been made available to two popular festivals in Co. Mayo, ensuring they can continue their excellent work in making science accessible and exciting for the local and wider community.

“From protecting the environment and promoting sustainable energy to driving technological innovation and developing new ways to improve our health, science plays an integral role in our everyday lives.

“For this year’s Science Week, the theme ‘Regeneration’ challenges us to rethink how we interact with the world around us and encourages us to build on our collective strengths for a better future.

“With hundreds of events happening nationwide, Science Week offers something for everyone, regardless of age or background.”

Minister Dillon concluded: “I’m encouraging everyone to take part in Science Week by attending a festival or event and getting involved in the stimulating activities on offer during the week.”
