Fine Gael HQ's plans for south Mayo candidate taking shape

Plans by Fine Gael HQ to run a candidate in south Mayo are taking shape.

The person strongly linked with the candidacy, Martina Jennings, has today become a member of the party.

The Connaught Telegraph has learned that she joined the Crossboyne branch of the organisation.

Her membership was confirmed by the secretary of the branch, Tom Garvey.

Ms. Jennings, who is chief executive officer of Mayo Roscommon Hospice, is expected to be added to the party's general election ticket shortly.

Meanwhile, the party's talks with Ballina Independent Councillor Mark Duffy are ongoing.

Minister of State Alan Dillon and Keira Keogh were selected at the party's convention last month.
