Powerful prose, music and theatre at Mayo arts centre
ON the agenda at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, in October is a host of creative treats and entertaining events to connect with.
Rising star of the music industry, musician and songwriter, Jamie Duffy performs in concert on Saturday, October 12.
At only 22 years old, Duffy skilfully blends traditional, popular, and classical influences to craft his signature musical style. His debut single, ‘Solas’, achieved remarkable success in 2022, becoming the most streamed debut song by an Irish artist since Hozier's 'Take Me To Church', amassing over 79 million streams on Spotify.
Multiple collaborations ensued showcasing Duffy’s versatility and innovation. Into the West with Mayo-based cellist Patrick Dexter pays homage to Irish emigrants, drawing inspiration from the rugged Irish Atlantic coast. Having also joined forces with Moncrieff, Peter Sandberg (Stranger Things), and, most recently, Kingfishr, The Irish Times stated, “Whether he decides to be Ireland’s answer to Hans Zimmer or the next Yo-Yo Ma, the future is most certainly bright.”
OPEN MIC
The Linenhall Arts Centre is thrilled to announce the launch of its new open mic night, Open Mic Poetry and Short Prose, a welcoming platform for experienced poets, storytellers, or newcomers eager to share their voice, commencing monthly from Monday, October 7.
In advance of each monthly session, a featured reader will be revealed, and it is with great delight that Ger Reidy joins as the launch night’s featured reader.
This rich celebration of creative expression, in an intimate and inspirational environment, invites poets to share their original work, and audiences to witness the raw emotion and energy of live performance.
CHILDREN'S THEATRE
An exciting new play for young audiences aged 9 plus, The Dead Letter Office, by Mary-Lou McCarthy, runs as part of the Linenhall’s upcoming schools programme and the annual Roola Boola Children’s Festival.
Developed by Veronica Coburn and directed by Emily Foran, alongside an award-winning creative team, the play is a beautiful story about connection and how through others we can find ourselves.
There are two showings on Tuesday, October 8, at 10.15 a.m. and 12.15 p.m. Schools can contact the Linenhall Box Office for additional information and bookings.
Also upcoming at the venue are: The Linenhall Film Club’s Ama Gloria on Tuesday, October 8, Stand Up Comedy Coaching with Ger Staunton on Tuesday, October, 15; and the fifth anniversary concert of Bridge of Song on Wednesday, October 16.
