Mayo pyrotechnics storage facility decision appealed

A FIREWORKS company who propose installing a shipping container underground in north Mayo for storing pyrotechnics has brought their plans to An Bord Pleanála.

Mayo County Council turned down planning at a site at Rathoma, Killala, for the installation of a 40ft metal shipping container underground with 3.2m high earth mounding to all sides for the safe and secure storage of pyrotechnics.

Rocket Pyrotechnics Ltd., a family-owned business based in Co. Wicklow, but looking to relocate to their native Killala, have appealed that decision to An Bord Pleanála.

Rocket Pyrotechnics have worked in the professional fireworks display business for over 25 years, planners were told in a submission, with a reputation as one of the best in the country. Safety of staff, clients and the viewing public is always the number one priority.

Due to Brexit and the changes it has brought to their supply chain, the company says its business model isn't sustainable without securing a storage facility.

A decision is due from the appeals board by the end of January.
