Sepsis campaigners address White House Healthcare Safety Forum
SEPSIS campaigners Ciaran and Orlaith Staunton have addressed the White House Healthcare Safety Forum.
Since the death of their son Rory from sepsis 12 years ago, Mayo native Ciaran and his wife Orlaith have waged an extraordinary campaign to raise awareness of this illness in New York, across the United States, and worldwide.
The Stauntons were recently invited to the White House Healthcare Safety Forum, where they spoke about sepsis, which kills more than 350,000 Americans annually and is the largest killer of children in the world.
The Stauntons also described how the life-saving Rory's Regulations, named after their late son, Rory, have saved over 20,000 New Yorkers in the first four years since it was signed into law.
Dr. Konrad Reinhart, founding president, Global Sepsis Alliance, said of the Stauntons' work: “No family in the world has done more in the fight against sepsis than the Stauntons.”
