Youthreach Kiltimagh shines at Junk Kouture finals with 'Earthly Elegance'
YOUTHREACH Kiltimagh took centre stage at the prestigious Junk Kouture Live Finals in the RDS with their stunning and thought-provoking creation, 'Earthly Elegance'.
The event, a nationwide celebration of creativity and sustainability, highlighted the incredible talents of young designers across Ireland - and Youthreach Kiltimagh's design made a lasting impression.
Inspired by themes of Positive Mental Health, Grounding, and Biodiversity, the 'Earthly Elegance' team - led by Geraldine Doherty and represented by models Amanda Beca, Rianna Prendergast and Gabriele Bacyte - crafted a masterpiece that seamlessly marries nature and fashion. The design symbolises the human connection with the natural world and the importance of finding balance in life’s challenges.
What sets 'Earthly Elegance' apart is its meticulous use of materials that mirror the intricate patterns found in nature.
The natural earth-toned colour palette and detailed craftsmanship are a visual celebration of biodiversity and the delicate beauty of Mother Earth. The design serves not only as an aesthetic triumph but also as a powerful message about resilience, healing, and the grounding power of nature.
At its heart, 'Earthly Elegance' is a call to nurture mental health and a reminder of the rejuvenating effects of nature. In an era where mental health concerns are increasingly pressing, this design speaks to the importance of remaining connected to the earth and its healing properties.
Although the team did not advance to the World final, the journey was one of immense growth, creativity and personal achievement.
Youthreach Kiltimagh expressed immense pride in their team’s work, declaring: “We may not have made it to the World final, but we feel like true winners!”
Along with 'Earthly Elegance', Youthreach Kiltimagh also had their 2022 Junk Kouture dress, 'Pearl of the Sea', on display in the Junk Kouture Hall of Fame. This stunning design, inspired by the theme of ocean pollution, made it to the regional final in 2022 and continues to raise awareness about sustainability and protecting our seas.
The intricate detailing and vibrant hues of 'Pearl of the Sea' serve as a reminder of the urgent need to address ocean pollution and care for our planet.
The team extended special recognition to Amanda Beca, who modelled the design with grace and confidence, embodying the spirit of the concept.
Youthreach Kiltimagh also congratulated the finalists moving forward and thanked the local community, teachers and mentors for their unwavering support throughout the journey.
“This is just the beginning,” they exclaimed, highlighting the lasting impact of their work in promoting mental well-being, grounding, and biodiversity.
