Refurbished west Mayo community centre officially opened

DEPUTY Michael Ring has officially opened the newly refurbished Fahy Community Centre.

At Sunday's ceremony he applauded volunteers across rural communities who bring projects, such as the Fahy centre, to fruition.

Said Deputy Ring: “I was delighted to be asked to officially open the newly refurbished Fahy Community Centre on Sunday last. This fabulous amenity is testament to the hard work and dedication of Tommy Duggan and his very diligent committee with the support of the local community.

“Community centres are at the heart of our rural towns and villages. They provide an outlet for young and old for many activities.”

Fahy Community Centre was allocated €300,000 under the Community Centres Investment Fund and this money, he said, had been put to excellent use.

Deputy Ring continued: “Volunteers are the backbone of society. I applaud our volunteers and all that they do for our communities. Without volunteers, rural communities would not thrive and projects such as the refurbishment of Fahy Community Centre would not come to fruition.

“It was wonderful to see such a large gathering at the reopening. Community spirit is very much alive and kicking in Fahy and the surrounding hinterland.

“I wish the community of Fahy every success with their newly refurbished community centre and I hope they have many happy times and successful events in it.”
