Mayo service honoured at Praxis Care awards

PRAXIS Care, a leading charity dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, mental ill health and dementia, honoured two of its west of Ireland services at its annual Quality Conference and Staff Awards at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk. The event honoured staff from across the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man for their outstanding contributions and dedication to high-quality care.

The Station Lodge Castlebar team were presented with the Etta Eid Jennings Award. This is awarded to the team who delivers exceptional performance beyond expectations, consistently achieves positive outcomes, is committed to continuous improvement in quality and safety, and fosters a positive, collaborative approach.

Support Worker of the Year was awarded to Phyllis Finnerty, from Easkey, Sligo. This prestigious award honours an individual who is passionate about making a difference, goes the extra mile, and inspires those they support to live a full and meaningful life.

Chief executive Carol Breen said the awards this year hold particular significance as they celebrate Praxis Care’s 40th anniversary.

“Over the past four decades, we have dedicated ourselves to empowering individuals through compassionate, tailored care. Today, we honour the incredible staff whose passion and hard work have made this possible,” she said.

Praxis Care, Station Lodge, is an individualised children’s residential service, dedicated to supporting a young person with intellectual disability. Station Lodge adopts a human rights approach to care, ensuring that the young person's psychological, emotional, and holistic needs are met.

Praxis Care’s Easkey service residential support to adults with intellectual disability and mental health diagnosis. Residents have a dedicated key working team who are there to support each resident in achieving their goals, dreams and aspirations.

Praising the services, Ms. Breen added: “These services in the west of Ireland exemplify everything we stand for - respect, dignity, and a person-centred approach. Their work with people in the community is inspiring, and I’m proud to recognise their remarkable achievements.”
