Mayo will soon discover their 2025 provincial football championship pathway

Mayo will discover their 2025 provincial football championship pathway this coming weekend.

The draw for the 2025 GAA provincial football championships will take place live on RTÉ Radio 1 as part of the Saturday Sport programme, presented by Joanne Cantwell, at approximately 4 p.m. It will also be streamed on RTÉ.ie/sport.

The draws will be conducted by Vincent Neary (Connacht GAA president), Martin Byrne (Leinster GAA vice-chairperson), Ger Ryan (Munster GAA chairperson) and Ciarán McLaughlin (Ulster GAA president).

In Connacht next year, Galway will travel to face New York at Gaelic Park in one quarterfinal, while London host Roscommon at McGovern Park, Ruislip, in another last eight encounter. There will be a draw for the other quarterfinal fixture involving either Mayo, Sligo or Leitrim. The team that isn't drawn in the quarterfinal will go straight into a semi-final, where there will be an open draw along with the three quarterfinal winners.

Elsewhere, the four semi-finalists from the 2024 Leinster SFC – Dublin, Louth, Offaly and Kildare – go straight through to the quarterfinals in 2025. The remaining seven counties – Wicklow, Westmeath, Laois, Carlow, Longford, Wexford, and Meath – will be placed in a bowl to get three first-round pairings. One of those seven teams won't be drawn and will go into the quarterfinal.

The three first round winners and the county that receives the bye will be drawn against the four teams who reached last year's semi-finals in the last eight.

Munster is more straightforward, with the 2024 finalists, Kerry and Clare, going straight through to the semi-final round in 2025. Two quarterfinal ties will be determined in a draw featuring Waterford, Cork, Limerick and Tipperary, and there will be an open draw for the semi-finals between Kerry, Clare and the two quarterfinal winners.

In Ulster, Armagh, Antrim, Monaghan and Cavan have all played in preliminary round fixtures in 2023 and 2024, so they cannot be involved at that stage next year. Two counties from Tyrone, Derry, Down, Donegal and Fermanagh will feature in that game. The winner of the preliminary round fixture will join the remaining seven counties in the quarterfinal stage.
