Stunning new Mayo coastal trail unveiled
A STUNNING new coastal trail has been unveiled in west Mayo.
The Newport Coastal Trail is a scenic, wheelchair-accessible path, and a welcome new addition for the local community and visitors to the area.
And there are plans to extend it further.
Details about the project were published on the Newport Mayo Facebook page, which outlined: 'Newport is proud to unveil the new Newport Coastal Trail, a beautiful addition to the area that offers a unique opportunity to experience the town’s stunning coastal views.
'This 400-metre, wheelchair-accessible trail begins at the Guard Station on Mulranny Road and leads to a scenic viewing point overlooking Trá Bán.
'Phase 1 of this project, a collaborative effort between NADDCo and South West Mayo Development Company CLG, features accessible seating at the viewing area, ensuring that everyone - regardless of mobility - can enjoy Newport's breathtaking coastal scenery.
'The completion of this trail was made possible thanks to the generosity of local landowners who provided permissive access, the hard work of dedicated contractors, and the RSS and Tús team.
'With continued support from local landowners, future plans aim to extend the trail into Newport Quay, allowing people to experience even more of Newport’s scenic charm and spectacular views.'
