Construction to start this month on new Mayo skate park

CONSTRUCTION is to start this month on a new skate park in Castlebar.

Minister of State Alan Dillon has received confirmation today that construction will commence on the project at Lough Lannagh on October 21.

Said Minister Dillon: “This will be a fantastic amenity for Castlebar, and a welcome facility for many people in our town.

“I have campaigned strongly on this project and am happy that phase one will be funded under the Community Recognition Fund.”

Councillor Ger Deere, who has been a driving force behind the skate park, also welcomed the progression to construction stage, saying the facility will be a welcome addition to the sports and leisure facilities in the Lough Lannagh area.

He tabled a motion four years ago to identify a suitable site for a skate park, and then to seek funding.

“When completed, it will be another wonderful amenity at Lough Lannagh,” he said.
