New book celebrates Mayo GAA clubs' finest hours
Some great days in the history of Mayo GAA clubs are celebrated in a new book penned by experienced GAA journalist Edwin McGreal.
Our Finest Hour – Mayo GAA Clubs reflects on glory days over 54 illuminating chapters featuring more than 200 interviews with a host of icons of football and hurling in Mayo.
The book will launch this Saturday evening (October 12) at the Wild Atlantic Words Literary Festival in Castlebar. Hosted by renowned broadcaster Mike Finnerty, the launch will take the form of a live panel discussion with some local club legends.
The event gets underway at 6.30 p.m. at the Festival Dome at the rear of Bridge St Bar/Elverys in Castlebar.
Among those who will talk about their club and their love for the GAA are Mayo star Aidan O’Shea, Castlebar Mitchels’ Declan Shaw, Ballintubber’s John Feeney, Islandeady’s Peter Collins Snr and Castlebar Mitchels Hurling Club’s Tony Stakelum, and more.
All are welcome to the launch. Admission is free.
A number of other similar events are planned for different locations in the county. To keep up to date, follow ‘Our Finest Hour by Edwin McGreal’ on Facebook.
