Mayo golf club are Connaught champions again

MULRANNY Golf Club's Jack O’Sullivan team were undaunted by their first leg deficit when easily overcoming Tubbercurry in the home leg final to be crowned Connaught champions on Saturday.

Johan Collins/David Ryder set the standard in match one with an early 4 and 3 victory. Christy McDonnell/Fergus Rothwell continued their unbeaten seasonal run with a 3 and 2 win in match two. In match four, Stephen Munnelly/Mike Scanlon ensured the trophy was returning to Mulranny for a fourth time when clinching their match on the 16th for a famous win.

In the third match, Brian Ainsworth/Sean Fitzgerald had fought back to level their match on the 17th.

Congratulations to playing captain Fergus Rothwell on making some tough selection decisions, which when you win are always vindicated.

So has ended a double winning season for Mulranny with the Fred Perry Senior Trophy safely tucked away. It’s an incredible statistic that six of the Jack O’Sullivan side were elder statesmen of the Fred Perry.
