Mayo filmmaker wins Award for Poetic Expression

CASTLEBAR filmmaker Orlagh Heverin’s short film, Deoch Dance, has won the Award for Poetic Expression at the 15th International DiViPassion Short Film Festival in Ballina Arts Centre.

The DiViPassion festival took place in Ballina as a collaboration between the Athis-Mons (France) based DiViPassion film association and Ballina Fringe Festival.

Deoch Dance was one of the 19 films shortlisted from 188 international entries received.

Deoch Dance was entirely shot in Mayo and has received multiple awards internationally. The short is an experimental film piece that deals with addiction through the medium of dance.

Heverin said she is honoured that the poetic expression within the short was recognised by the film festival jury.

She is currently working on a poetry film subject to funding to make the same.

Ann-Marie Kilgannon, representing DiViPassion film association and Ballina Fringe Festival, presented Orlagh with her award certificate and cash prize.
