First screening of special Mayo film All Our Yesterdays

THIS weekend, an important part of Swinford's history will be screened in the town.

On Saturday (October 26), as part of the Féile Na Samhna celebrations, the documentary All Our Yesterdays will be launched at the Gateway Hotel at 7 p.m. Tickets are limited (details below), so get booking.

Local woman Breege Rowley is behind the documentary film which is about the story of Ireland, told through the people of Swinford, containing many unearthed archives from Swinford's past as well as music from members of the Swinford Comhaltas branch and the late Conor Walsh.

Its significance holds a special place in the hearts of the Diaspora.

The documentary is a testament to the extraordinary commitment and passion of its creator, Breege Rowley, and it is a piece of work that generations now and into the future will treasure.

For the past decade, Breege has been driven by a deep passion to preserve the rich history and stories of the local Irish community.

For over 10 years she has recorded many historic events in Swinford, from the 1916 centenary celebrations, Siamsa Sraide Reeling Back the Years, the Procession of the Souls and many other events.

She was one of the leading members of the Swinford 250 celebrations along with Cathal Kelly, Moira Philbin and Mairin Noone, which helped launched many events in Swinford that continue to this day.

All Our Yesterdays chronicles Swinford's transformation from the harsh era of the Penal Laws to the vibrant community it is today.

It isn’t just a film; it’s a labour of love - a testament to the resilience, spirit, and indomitable character of the Irish people.

Countless hours have been spent gathering voices from the community, uncovering treasured photographs, cine films, and personal archives, all to weave together a story that pulses with the life and rhythm of Swinford. The film features a rich auditory landscape, crafted with the harmonious tunes of Swinford’s own musicians, composers, and vocal talents, who together bring the essence of our culture to life.

Breege is working to raise funds for the archive license, which will allow her to release the film all over the world. You can support this via the All Our Yesterdays GoFundMe campaign: https://gofund.me/23d03aea.
