Five applications to chair new Mayo Community Safety Partnership

MOVES are underway to establish a Mayo Community Safety Partnership in Mayo, which will replace the former Joint Policing Committee.

Five applications have been received by Mayo County Council for the position of chairperson and interviews will take place in the next few weeks.

These will be conducted by a department official and a chief executive from another council area.

Clarity has been requested on whether or not a councillor can hold the position of chairperson.

In Sligo, an elected representative has been appointed and it appears the regulations do not exclude this, councillors were told at their monthly meeting.
