Dillon congratulates Mayo winners of Tidy Towns awards

Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD has congratulated Westport and Balla on winning major awards at this year’s National Tidy Towns competition.

The winners of the awards were announced by Fine Gael Minister Heather Humphreys at an awards ceremony in Croke Park today.

Minister Dillon said: “This is a huge achievement for Balla Tidy Towns who won the Inclusive Communities Award for their Sensory Garden, which I had the honour of officially opening last month.

‘Other big winners were Westport Tidy Towns who won Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town. I also want to congratulate Gold Medal winners, Castlebar, Westport, Mulranny and Belmullet.

Silver Medal winners: Ballina and Cong village who won a Bronze medal. Belmullet won the Gaeltacht award while the Town Centre First bronze medal went to Balla. The Regional Award for North-West/West went to Westport.

“Winning these awards is a testament to the commitment of the committee and volunteers in each of these towns, who give up so much of their valuable time to ensure their towns and villages are always shining.

These Tidy Towns group across Mayo showcase the positive impact of community spirit and volunteerism.

“Each and every week, their volunteers are seen out and about doing their bit to keep towns such as Westport, Balla, Castlebar, Belmullet, Cong, all looking their best.

“A massive congratulations is owed to everyone involved with these Tidy Towns group, and I hope they enjoy the well-earned celebrations.

“With funding of €42,000 now available for Mayo groups for 2025, I am encouraging all groups to apply and avail of up to €4,000.

“I look forward to working further with Tidy Towns groups across Mayo to see them further build upon their success this year,” Minister Dillon concluded.
