Tributes to retired Mayo business woman Nancy Fahey on her passing
The death has occurred of Nancy Fahey (née Hughes), The Curragh and Main Street, Castlebar, and formerly of Myles-Estate, Kilmaine.
She died peacefully in the care of the wonderful staff of the Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar.
The deceased was former proprietor of Fahey's children's clothing store, Main Street, Castlebar.
A much-loved and affable personality, she was an active member of Castlebar Branch of the Pioneer Association for many years.
Predeceased by her husband Willie, nephews, niece, grandnephews and all her siblings, Nancy will be sadly missed by her sons Paraic (Terenure), Liam (Belcarra), Paul and John (Breaffy), daughters-in- law Majella, Kathy, Rita and Nichola, her grandchildren, great-granddaughter, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces neighbours and friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
Warm tributes are being paid to Nancy on social media by those who knew her well and held her in high regard.
One stated: "Great memories of Nancy walking briskly to and from the shop each day with a kind word for all she passed."
Another said: "She was a great woman, always with a kind welcome, a ready smile and a sharp wit. She will be missed."
"Nancy was a lovely lady, a great friend of the family and always so kind to us when we used to call to her shop on our way home from school, the biscuit tin was always opened on our arrival," another said.
Her remains will be reposing at Coady's Funeral Home, Linenhall Street, Castlebar, this evening (Friday) from 5 to 7 p.m.
Requiem Mass takes place in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Saturday, at 1 p.m. with interment afterwards in Breaffy Cemetery.
