Death of ‘iconic’ former Mayo hotelier is deeply mourned
Warm tributes are being paid online to 'an iconic lady,' Bridie Healy, formerly of Healy’s Hotel, Pontoon.
Mrs. Healy (97), who was predeceased by her husband, Tom, has passed away at Blackrocks Nursing Home, Foxford.
For many decades, Bridie and Tom ran Healy’s Hotel, endearing themselves to patrons, staff and the local community.
“She was an iconic lady to everyone," reads one of the many messages of condolence following her passing.
Foxford Bridge Club, of which Bridie was a long time member, described her as “a lovely lady and a very capable bridge player."

Bridie, whose maiden name was Murphy, hailed from the townland of Powl, near Kilmaine.
Beloved wife of the late Tom, she was predeceased by her sisters Mary, Gretta, Phil, Eileen, and Josie and her brother Paddy.
She is survived by her sister Ita (Chambers), daughters Mary, Éilis and Fiona, sons Dermot and Padraig, grandchildren Pearse, Jane, Kate, and Tom, great-grandchildren Abbi, Faye, Amelia and Madalyn and by her daughters-in-law Carmel Horrigan and Ruth Healy, sons-in-law Henry Leperlier and Garrett Donnelly, sisters-in-law Ann and Marie, and her nieces, nephews, relatives, dear friends and neighbours.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
Bridie will repose at Clarke's Funeral Home, Foxford, on Wednesday from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7.30 p.m. to St. Michael’s Church, Foxford.
Funeral Mass on Thursday at 11 o’clock followed by a cremation service in Shannon.
