Mayo arts centre unveils winter music scene
FEATURING a miscellany of styles and genres to suit all tastes, from choral to classical, the Linenhall Arts Centre’s winter programme boasts a vast array of live music performances to charm over the coming season.
With a name reflecting their sense of fun and the eclectic nature of their programming and performances, Far Flung Trio present a very special concert, ‘Under Paris Skies’, on November 13.
This talented ensemble brings the romance and allure of Paris to life through a scintillating blend of Romantic Opera, the Moulin Rouge and Hot Club Jazz, with music by Bizet, Satie and Michel Legrand, among many others.
Exquisite melodies and vibrant rhythms from Katherine Hunka (violin), Dermot Dunne (accordion) and Malachy Robinson (double bass) await, as they embark on a sonic journey, capturing the essence of the City of Light for local audiences.
GALWAY SINGS CHOIR
To November 23, when the Linenhall welcomes the Galway Sings Choir for a joyous evening of light music in celebration of their anniversary of a decade singing together. Adored for their energetic performances and rich harmonies, the choir invites everyone to partake in a heartfelt musical experience.
A key part of Galway’s choral scene, the choir offers an opportunity to perform popular songs from artists like the Beatles and Spice Girls, and its weekly meetings at the University of Galway are well regarded for fostering a fun, inclusive environment where members learn music by ear. Amassing a spirited repertoire of contemporary pop, attendees can expect familiar tunes, which warmly encourage participation.
FICINO QUARTET
Classical music has its turns at the helm on Wednesday, December 4,with the renowned Ficino Quartet. Lauded for their elegant interpretations of classical masterpieces, the quartet will perform Haydn, Amanda Feery and Beethoven.
Elaine Clark (violin), Lynda O’Connor (violin), Nathan Sherman (viola) and Ailbhe McDonagh (cello) endear audiences with their meticulous craftsmanship and emotional depth, ensuring a memorable evening that resonates with both classical aficionados and newcomers alike.
The Linenhall’s winter music schedule also encompasses delightful duo Sexton & O'Donnell on November 9, with their unique blend of folk and contemporary, then The Raines take to the stage on December 7, delivering signature harmonies and heartfelt lyrics.
Declan Askin and Bart De Boer mark the 2024 music season finale on December 19, with their evocative sounds, an unforgettable evening filled with melodic and dynamic performances.
