Senator Lisa Chambers, Fianna Fáil general election candidate in Mayo, has expressed her delight at having Deputy Éamon Ó'Cuív attend her official campaign launch at Breaffy House Hotel.

This event marked a significant moment as it was Deputy Ó'Cuív's last official engagement before he steps back from contesting the general election, bringing an end to a notable career in public service.

“I was truly honoured to have Deputy Éamon Ó'Cuív officially launch my campaign,” said Senator Chambers.

“His dedication to public service and the people of Galway and Mayo has been remarkable.

"Eamon has always been a guiding light for me in politics, and I have looked up to him throughout my career. His commitment to social justice, rural development, and community engagement has set a high standard for all of us.”

During the launch, Deputy Ó'Cuív issued a passionate rallying call for rural Ireland, emphasising the importance of electing strong representatives who prioritise rural issues.

“It is vital that we have voices in the Dáil who will champion the needs of rural communities,” he stated.

He highlighted the collaborative work he has undertaken with Senator Chambers over the years, particularly on issues such as rural planning and the development of the Western Rail Corridor.

“Lisa is a dedicated advocate for our communities, and I have every confidence that she will continue to push these crucial issues forward,” he added.

Deputy Ó'Cuív, who has served as a public representative for over 30 years, has made significant contributions to Irish politics.

Said Senator Chambers: "He has held various key roles, including Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

"His efforts in promoting rural development and advocating for the Irish language have had a lasting impact on communities throughout the west.

"He is the current sitting TD for part of South Mayo, which will return to the Mayo constituency in this election.

The event at Breaffy House Hotel was well-attended by supporters and local leaders, showcasing the strong community backing for Senator Chambers’ campaign.

As she embarks on this journey, she is committed to continuing the work of those who have come before her and ensuring that the voices of the people of Mayo are heard in the Oireachtas.

“Together, we can build a brighter future for Mayo, and I am excited to have the support of dedicated public servants like Eamon as we move forward,” she added.
