Charity truck run and light show returns
THE fourth annual Joyce Country Truck Run and Light Show in aid of Cancer Care Tuam will take place on December 7 from Maam Cross Mart.
The event is set to take the Joyce Country into a dazzling display of lights and festivities with a convoy of truck cabs departing from Maam Cross Mart at 5 p.m., travelling to Cong village, passing through Maam Valley, Maam, Cornamona, Cloughbreac, Clonbur and finishing at the Crossroads Community Centre in Cong village.
Organisers Paddy Rock and Ray McHugh said the event, which has become well established on the calendar of fundraising events, continues to grow in popularity each year.
Asked where the idea came from, Paddy said he always had it in his mind that he would love to make a Irish version of the Coca Cola Christmas ad that featured trucks lit up for Christmas. And Maam Valley was the perfect place to do this.
Speaking from the route, Ray McHugh said events like the Joyce Country Truck Run are vital to raise funds for charities.
The event is open to articulated lorry cabs (no trailers please) and smaller trucks such as refrigerated six wheelers and delivery trucks and the odd tractor. An entry fee of €50 applies and can be paid on the day or added through the iDonate page.
