Mayo tributes to Mick Monaghan, 'an affable, gentle character'
The death of Michael (Mick) Monaghan has left a sad void in his native Castlebar where he was highly regarded as “one of life’s true gentlemen."
Mick lived at Ballynew on the outskirts of the county town with his wife, Kathleen.
The couple reared a family of three, two sons, Keith and Michael, and a daughter, Caroline.
In messages of condolence to his family following his death at Mayo University Hospital, Mick is described as a “wonderful neighbour” and somebody who was “always pleasant and in good humour."
A former member of staff at Castlebar Bacon Factory, where he was a valued employee for many years, Mick was known for his gentle, friendly manner.
A great supporter of Mayo GAA he frequently attended inter-county and club games.
In 1970, he made the long trip to the United States with a touring contingent from Castlebar Mitchels.
Mick was predeceased by his parents Michael and Bridget and a brother, Pat.
He is deeply regretted by his loving family: wife Kathleen, sons Keith and Michael, daughter Caroline (Ballinasloe), brothers Tom and John, son-in-law Frankie, daughters-in-law Debbie and Ciara, his adored grandchildren Breffine, Darragh and Oisin, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.
Reposing at the Coady Funeral Home, Castlebar on Wednesday evening from 5.30 p.m. until 7 p.m. followed by removal to the The Church of The Holy Rosary.
Requiem Mass on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. with funeral afterwards to the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
