Residents unhappy as another Mayo placename sign is removed
ANOTHER placename sign in the Castlebar area has gone 'missing'.
Previously, it was townland signs on the Islandeady side of town that were changed to road numbers - they have since been replaced following an outcry.
And now it has happened again, with the signs for Liscromwell/Aughaluskey being removed and replaced by a road sign number.
This latest removal in recent weeks was brought to the attention of Councillor Ger Deere, who raised it at a municipal meeting.
The townlands name sign has been in place for generations, he said, and it needs to go back again.
If the road number needs to be used, by all means include it underneath the name, he suggested.
Councillor Deere said there is a huge population in this area and they are angry that their name is gone.
He asked that the signs be 'found again'.
