Adaptation grants of up to €40,000 available in Mayo

MINISTER of State for Local Government and Planning, Alan Dillon, has announced an increase in grants to adapt homes that will allow disabled and older people to live more independently across Mayo.

As part of Budget 2025, Fine Gael increased the Housing Adaptation Grants for the disabled and elderly to allow them to remain in their own home.

Speaking today, Minister Dillon encouraged people in Mayo to apply for these grants: “Housing Adaptation Grants have a transformative impact on older people and those with a disability, enabling them to live more independently, in their own home and community, for as long as possible.”

Budget 2025 saw an additional €25 million allocated to these schemes so that people across Mayo can now receive grants of:

* €40,000 under the Housing Adaptation Grant for Disabled People, an increase of €10,000.

* €10,700 under the Housing Aid for Older People Grant, an increase of €2,700.

* €8,000 under the Mobility Aid Grant, increased by €2,000.

Minister Dillon said: “Applications commence under this new scheme with increased rates on December 1 from Mayo County Council and I would strongly encourage anyone who is eligible to make an application.

“So far this year, over 11,000 grants have been paid out to help people remain in their own home and in their community.

“The changes announced will improve the lives of many of the most vulnerable people across Mayo to live more independent lives. As the Minister of State with responsibility for housing for older people and disabled people, I am fully committed to supporting individuals to remain at home and within their own communities through these revised grants.”

He addd: “In December, contact Mayo County Council or my constituency office in Castlebar to apply for these grants.”
