Chambers outlines priorities for Mayo ahead of general election

SENATOR Lisa Chambers has declared her commitment to delivering for the people of Mayo as the general election has been officially called.

“I believe Fianna Fáil will be in the next government, and I want to be part of that government so I can influence decisions and deliver for the people of Mayo,” she stated.

With a decade of experience in elected politics, including serving as Leader of Seanad Éireann, Senator Chambers has developed the expertise and relationships necessary to advocate effectively for Mayo.

“I am passionate about Mayo and the west of Ireland. I know where the gaps are and what we need to focus on,” she emphasised.

Senator Chambers has identified three key priorities for the people of Mayo: housing, industry, and infrastructure.

1. Housing: “I want to accelerate the delivery of affordable housing so people can buy and own their own homes. Housing is a fundamental need, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that every family has access to safe and affordable accommodation.”

2. Industry: “I want to see new industry locate in Mayo through the purchase of a large-scale IDA site and a serious focus on the Strategic Development Zone at Knock Airport. This will create jobs and boost the local economy, helping to secure a prosperous future for our communities.”

3. Infrastructure: “Key infrastructure projects are essential for our growth. I am committed to expanding Mayo University Hospital to meet our healthcare needs, advancing the Western Rail Corridor to connect Mayo and Galway, and investing in renewable offshore floating wind projects to drive economic growth in the region. Furthermore, I will advocate for more investment in our energy grid to ensure we have the robust infrastructure needed to support this growth.”

Senator Chambers is also committed to improving support and services for carers, emphasising the need for increased respite and residential places for families with loved ones who have high needs.

“We have so little in this area, and it’s a significant issue for many constituents. Families deserve better support, and I will fight to ensure they receive the care and assistance they need.”

She is also committed to pushing for increased garda recruitment in Mayo to ensure that communities feel safe and secure.

“I understand the concerns of residents regarding garda numbers, and I will advocate for a significant boost in recruitment efforts to ensure that our local gardaí have the resources they need to effectively serve our communities.

“It is essential that we not only maintain but also enhance the visibility of gardaí in our towns and villages. I will work to ensure that the needs of rural areas are prioritised in future recruitment strategies, so every person in Mayo has the reassurance of a strong police presence,” she stated.

“I am dedicated to being a strong voice for Mayo and ensuring that our needs are met in the next government. Together, we can build a brighter future for our county.”
