Two Mayo students receive DCU Scholarship awards
Mayo students Meghan O’Donnell and Dionne Lavelle have been presented with scholarship awards by Dublin City University at a ceremony to celebrate memorial and endowed scholarships.
In total, 51 students received awards named in honour of individuals and organisations who have played a leading role in the life of Dublin City University and in wider Irish society.
Meghan O’Donnell from Belmullet, a past pupil of Coláiste Bhreandáin Naofa who is completing a degree in Nursing at Dublin City University, was awarded The Aidan McDonnell Memorial Scholarship.
The Aidan McDonnell Memorial Scholarship was established by telecommunications company Vilicom Ltd in honour of Aidan McDonnell from Ballina in County Mayo, who passed away in June 2006.
The Aidan McDonnell Memorial Scholarship provides for an annual scholarship on the DCU Access Scholarship Programme for a student from County Mayo.
Dionne Lavelle, Ballina, also a former student of Coláiste Bhreandáin Naofa who is currently studying for a Bachelor of Education at Dublin City University, was presented with the Frank Durkan Memorial Scholarship.
In November 2008, DCU established the Frank Durkan Memorial Scholarship through the support of family and friends of Frank Durkan.
This fund provides scholarship support for access students from Frank Durkan’s native County Mayo.
