Mayo nominee in Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards 2024

Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI), in association with Homecare Medical, has announced details of the upcoming NHI Care Awards – the premier national celebration of the exceptional dedication of nursing homes and nursing home professionals in communities across Ireland.

Among the nominees for the 2024 NHI Care Awards is Noranna Pearce of Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar.

The prestigious awards event, to be held on November 19 in the historic Round Room at the Mansion House, will honour the dedication, skill and compassion of nursing home staff who tirelessly support the health and well-being of Ireland's older population.

This year, NHI is honoured to welcome Minister for Finance Jack Chambers, who will present the winners withe their awards. His attendance honours the national significance of nursing homes in Irish healthcare and the vital contribution of their staff to communities across the country.

The NHI Care Awards underscore the essential role nursing home staff play in the lives of over 27,000 people who rely on nursing homes to meet their essential clinical, health and social care needs. By recognising best practices within the sector, the awards shine a spotlight on those individuals and teams who go above and beyond to ensure residents live with dignity, purpose and connection.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Tadhg Daly, CEO of Nursing Homes Ireland, said: “Our annual NHI Care Awards, in association with Homecare Medical, are a testament to the profound dedication and commitment of nursing home staff across the country. These individuals embody the values that drive Nursing Homes Ireland: empowering those in our care, leading with compassion, partnering with families and communities, and advocating for excellence in every aspect of the care experience.

“We are incredibly proud of each nominee and grateful for their contribution to making Ireland one of the best places to age. We look forward to celebrating their achievements on November 19.”

The NHI Care Awards also highlight the role of nursing homes as vibrant mini-communities where dedicated staff across a range of disciplines – nurses, healthcare assistants, activity coordinators, social care workers, and support staff – provide far more than medical care. They bring comfort, companionship and a sense of belonging to residents and their families, enriching lives and creating environments where residents can live to their fullest potential.

The awards are a powerful reminder of NHI’s vision: to make Ireland one of the best places to age, where anyone who needs nursing home care can access it through NHI’s trusted members. This historic venue, the Round Room at the Mansion House, which has hosted significant events in Ireland's history, is a fitting setting to celebrate those who bring compassion, dedication, and excellence to nursing home care each day.

Finalists for the awards were selected by an independent judging panel led by Amanda Phelan from the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health at DCU, along with Paula O’Reilly, CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation, and Andy Heffernan, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

Nursing Homes Ireland extends its sincere thanks to Homecare Medical and all partners and supporters who have helped make this event possible. The NHI Care Awards serve as a meaningful occasion to recognise and honour the countless contributions of nursing home staff, whose commitment to quality care helps ensure that Ireland’s older population can age with dignity, respect and joy.
