Mayo businessman Joe Doherty is feted in New York
Joe Doherty, a native of Rockfield, Turlough, Castlebar, and owner of Precision Wood Windows, has been honoured in New York for 45 years in business.
He was presented with a proclamation from Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and celebrated with friends and family.
The special event took place in Katie's Cottage Yonkers, whose owner Tom Brogan hails from Ballycastle and his wife Sinead from Co. Tyrone.
The celebration was captured by News12 Westchester.
Doherty's daughter Dawn, who has been involved in the business for over 10 years, was instrumental in organizing the surprise celebration.
Dawn is a music teacher at St. Mark's Lutheran School and director of her Irish Music and Singing School in Yonkers.
She was previously recognised as Mayo Woman of the Year by the Mayo Society of NY.
Doherty's business which was featured in the New York Times specialises in customising wood windows and doors for designated landmark buildings in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn.
He is known for his kindness and generosity in the community, having donated to various fundraisers and charities over the years.
Joe has no immediate plans to retire - he joked that he will wait for Mayo to win the All-Ireland before he does!
We wish Joe Doherty all the best in his thriving business in New York.
