Mayo man makes Ireland Under 19 debut
FORMER Kiltimagh Knock United player Thomas Morley made his international debut this afternoon in a 0-0 draw against Moldova in the Under 19 European championship qualifiers.
Head coach Tom Mohan brought a squad of 20 players to Moldova where a last minute penalty for Ireland failed to be converted, instead a share of the spoils settled the result for an impressive Ireland side who now face Azerbaijan on Saturday morning.
The final qualifier is against Iceland on Tuesday, November 19.
Teams finishing in the top two of the group will progress to next spring’s elite round of qualifiers with an opportunity to reach the finals in Romania.
The Sligo Rovers midfielder Morley was also part of the Irish squad for a three-match series last month but today was his first start in the green of Ireland. He stayed on the field for the full 90 minutes in what was sure to be a proud day for all in east Mayo.
