'The Big House in the West: Past, Present and Future' Mayo seminar

'THE Big House in the West: Past, Present and Future' is a one-day seminar that ATU Mayo will host on Saturday, November 23.

This event is in association with Mayo County Council's Local Community Development Committee and Mayo North East.

The order of speakers for the day is as follows.

9.30-10 a.m.: Registration (tea/coffee).

10-10.30 a.m.: Dr. Ciaran Reilly (Maynooth University, remotely) - 'The Role of the Big House during the Famine'.

10.40-11.10 a.m.: Dr. Michael O'Connor (independent scholar) - 'The House that Sally Built – The Big House and Slavery'.

11.15-11.45 a.m.: Dr. Fiona White (ATU Mayo) - 'Ladies and Maids - The Women of Moore Hall'.

12-1 p.m.: Lunch.

1-1.30 p.m. Noel Campbell (National Museum of Ireland) - 'The Big House Repurposed’.

1.40-2.10 p.m.: Lynda and Chris Huxley (LIFE Lough Carra Project)/Kate McAney (Ireland mammal development manager, Vincent Wildlife Trust) - 'The Biodiversity of the Big House'.

2.15-2.45 p.m.: Robert Coyne (executive engineer at Mayo County Council) - ‘The Future of Moore Hall/and the Launch of the Moore Hall Master Plan’.

Closing remarks will follow.
