Castlebar Celtic are Mayo Under 19 Cup winners
Castlebar Celtic completed their double on Saturday night when they won the Under 19 Mayo Girls Cup final at Umbro Park, Milebush.
The final scoreline read 8-3 in their favour but full credit to Castlebar Town who made them fight for the win, especially in the second half, in what was a thrilling encounter.
Celtic had a dream start with three goals in the opening five minutes courtesy of Grace Carroll, Sarah Jane Kilcawley and Riona Moynihan, with Kilcawley, who was to secure a hat-trick, adding a fourth before the 10-minute mark.
Despite slipping five behind, Town showed massive character by not letting the chins drop and though they were to find a Celtic toe near every ball, they reduced the deficit by two in the last five minutes of the half, the first goal by Orlaith Connolly, followed closely by a lovely effort from Reina Heaney.
After the break, lightning was to strike twice for Celtic as they again opened the half with a goal, this time from Moynihan.
A memorable Sarah King goal pulled one back for Town and for a good spell in the half it was pretty much level pegging between the sides, Town edging it probably for a time.
However, on a pretty chilly night under lights in Milebush, the Celtic girls had all the answers and the local derby went in their favour as Aoibhinn Burke and, just before the end, Kilcawley wrapped up the scoring from the penalty spot.
Captain Kilcawley was presented with the cup by Diana Hopkins of the Mayo Women's League.
