Mayo county town mourning death of widely-loved Margaret Devine

Neighbours and friends are joining to pay tribute to Margaret Devine (née Prunty), Marian Row, Castlebar, whose death has taken place.

Late of Navan Road, Castleknock and Annyalla, Co. Monaghan, she died peacefully in her 91st year, surrounded by her family in the dedicated care of the staff in the ‘Carra Suite’, Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar.

Margaret is sadly missed by her five daughters Úna, Catherine, Eibhlín, Dympna and Máiréad, her adored grandchildren Dónal, Colm, Fiona, Patrick, Cian, Grace, Íosaf, Ana, Oisín, Tomás, Aoibheann and Niamh, sons-in-law Joe, Ger and Colin, sisters-in-law Kateen and Peggy, nephews, nieces, her extended family circle and many friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Edward and Agnes, her beloved husband Séamus, brothers Mick, Fr. Tony, Eamon, Patsy and Malachy, sister Babsy (Rose) and son-in-law Seán Gannon

Fond tributes are being paid to her on social media by many of her friends and Marian Row neighbours who held her in such high esteem.

One stated: "Margaret had a great ability to communicate with everyone young and old, we enjoyed her company, her sense of humour and her zest for life."

"She enriched our lives, in particular by her positive attitude to everything - an inspiration to all of us," another said.

A further tribute observed: "Margaret was a person of great generosity, kindness and humanity."

Margaret was a member of the Volunteer Service at Mayo University Hospital for many years and had a long association with Castlebar Bridge Club.

Margaret will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, this evening (Sunday) from 5 to 7 p.m.

Cremation Service will take place on Monday at 12 noon in Shannon Crematorium, Co. Clare.
