Heartbreak over level of Mayo cafe and restaurant closures
by Auld Stock
IT is sad to see a number of cafés and restaurants around Mayo being closed.
Behind each of those closures there is a lot of heartbreak.
I admire people who have the courage and enterprise to open businesses.
Such openings demand a lot of courage, faith and ambition.
Starting businesses in this country is a risky business; the cost of electricity in Ireland is the second highest in Europe and there are also a number of overheads which weigh heavily on business people.
The government should have another look at the level of taxation on cafés and restaurants.
Failure to do so will result in more closures in the catering business.
