Over €2 million in "Power Up Grants" for over 500 businesses in Mayo

Minister Alan Dillon TD is pleased to confirm that over €2 million will be paid out to more than 500 businesses starting tomorrow as part of the Power Up Grant initiative.

This grant, which was announced by his Fine Gael colleague, Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE), Peter Burke TD, in the recent budget, has seen an impressive 98% submission rate from eligible businesses registered for €4,000 across Mayo.

Minister Dillon stated, "This funding is proof of our commitment to supporting local Mayo businesses and fostering economic growth. The Power Up Grant will provide essential financial assistance to SMEs in the hospitality, retail, and beauty sectors, enabling them to enhance their operations and contribute to the overall economic development of our communities.

"I know the difficulties businesses continue to face. I have met many in recent weeks during the election campaign. I have also listened to the concerns of some businesses who are not eligible for Power Up for a variety of reasons.

I have contacted officials in the DETE to consider how the current scheme could be expanded within the budget we have allocated for the scheme this year to accommodate some of these businesses. If additional budget is required for an expanded scheme, that will have to be a matter for a new Government in 2025."

Minister Dillon also acknowledged the invaluable work of Mayo County Council in supporting local SMEs and businesses and ensuring the success of this initiative.

"The dedication and efforts of Mayo County Council have been instrumental in reaching out to businesses and facilitating their applications for the Power Up Grant."

The Power Up Grant is designed to support businesses in upgrading their infrastructure, investing in new technologies, and expanding their workforce.

The high submission rate highlights the eagerness of businesses to leverage this opportunity for growth and innovation.
