Tributes to Mayo insurance business founder on his passing
The death of David Flannelly Springfield, Castlebar and late of Springhill, Ballyvary, is deeply regretted in the community.
He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
In his 80th year, he was member of one of the county town's best known and most popular families.
David founded and managed a very successful insurance and investment business, David Flannelly Insurances, for many years and was an agent of EBS and other financial institutions.
He later went into partnership with Hastings Insurance, a business which is prominently located at Market Square in Castlebar.
David maintained a great interest in the growth and development of his home town and took tremendous pride in the business and commercial sectors expanding.
Warm tributes are being paid to him on social media.
One stated: "A calm, reflective, lovely man and a good colleague over many years."
"He will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of meeting him in this life," another said.
A further tribute described him as "one of life's true gentlemen."
He is deeply regretted by his wife Julie, sons David, Lance and John, daughter Susan, grandchildren Ewan, Niamh, James and Edith, brother Patrick and sister-in-law Breda, brother-in-law Michael Twomey, sister-in-law Peggy Galligan, daughters-in-law Patricia, Helen and Fiona, son-in-law Craig Olsen, nieces, nephews and his many friends and neighbours.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
David was predeceased by his parents Paddy and Patricia Flannelly.
His remains will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, tomorrow (Friday) evening from 5 p.m., with removal at 7 p.m. to his residence.
Removal from his residence on Saturday morning at 10.30 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
David will be laid to rest afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
